“It’s a decontamination kit. The IPP-51M – Indywidualny Pakiet Przeciwchemiczny (Individual Anti-Chemical Package) was the standard issue decontamination kit of the Armed Forces of the Polish People’s Republic from the early ’70s until the introduction of the IPP-95 in circa 1995. The IPP-51M was carried in the external pocket of the SzM-41M, SzM-41M KF, and MP-4 gas mask bag.
It contains four gauze swabs, a small container of decontaminating liquid in a gauze cover, a large container with a glass ampule of decontaminating liquid in a gauze cover, and two glass vials for pain relief.
The small container contained a 15% solution of sodium cresolate in 96% ethanol. The large container contained 10% zinc chloride solution in 82% ethanol, and the glass ampoule inside contained 15g of monochloramine B. The two glass ampoules contained a solution consisting of 40% ethanol, 40% diethyl ether, 19% chloroform, and 1% ammonia.”
