Apart from packing your telecast with cringey moments, one tried-and-true way to keep things interesting at the Emmys is by spreading the wealth. No, I’m not talking about raising money for the Boys & Girls Club — although, that bit from Nate Bargatze was mildly entertaining…for at least the first few acceptance speeches.
I’m, of course, talking about recognizing new shows and never-before-awarded actors. Fortunately, the night was full of this. While there was Apple TV+’s The Studio, which became the most-awarded first-season show of all time, many of the most exciting newcomers (and TV moments) came from the HBO universe. HBO/HBO Max scored big at the Emmys, tying Netflix for the most wins. And less quantifiable, but equally as important, I’d say they also won the award for most interesting wins.
