We’ve all heard someone talking about an accomplishment and wondered, “What’s impressive about that?”
User YazminRose on Reddit asked, “What’s something people brag about that isn’t impressive?”
Turns out, not every flex is really a flex.
1.
“What they would’ve done if they were there.”
2.
“Buying branded or expensive clothes, bags and shoes.”
3.
“Everything/anything. Even if it’s something inherently impressive, the act of bragging diminishes its impressiveness.”
4.
“Not staying home when they are sick. They are just making things worse for everyone else for the sake of their own ego. Stay home if you are sick, nobody is impressed that you are spreading it everywhere rather than using your brain.”
5.
“Being a cheater and disloyal. Like we get it: you have a loving wife/husband and you can’t stand them, so you choose adulterous behavior.”
6.
“Being constantly busy. That’s not a flex, it’s a warning sign.”
7.
“Being sleep-deprived all the time.”
8.
“Not reading a book since high school.”
9.
“Flexing that they never ask for help. Struggling alone isn’t a trophy, it’s just stubbornness.”
10.
“The fact that they slept with a lot of people.”
11.
“I have a friend who thinks it’s hilarious how he’s always trolling people online. I find it a pathetic way to spend your time and makes you look like a douche.”
12.
“Physical attributes they have no control over.”
13.
“How much alcohol they can drink or weed they can smoke.”
15.
“Being ‘brutally honest.’ It’s just an excuse for being rude.”
16.
“Having X many followers.”
17.
“Bragging about your ideology like it’s a personality. Acting loyal to a tribe, a party, or a label isn’t impressive it’s just outsourcing your thinking. Anyone can repeat talking points. What’s actually rare is someone who can step outside their ‘us vs them’ bubble and think for themselves.”
18.
“I’ve heard people proudly brag about never leaving their home state.”
19.
“Number of hours they work.”
20.
“That they were the first to know about something. Who cares?”
21.
“Getting high scores on cognitive tests.”
22.
“Being thin their whole life without exercise or healthy eating.”
23.
“Sorry to say this, but their kids. Going on about how great their kids are at sport, or school, or life in general just does not impress me. Are they looking for a parent of the year award or something??”
25.
“Not caring about other people’s feelings. Being an *sshole is not a flex.”
27.
“Going to Harvard (or any elite school really). I get that it takes hard work to get in and they only accept a tiny percentage of applicants. But those institutions reward a very specific type of achievement and I don’t think they signify you are smarter or more impressive than others.”
28.
“What a bad*ss they were in high school.”
30.
“Owning the latest phone like it automatically makes life cooler.”
31.
“How much colder or hotter it is where they live.”
32.
“How many times they’ve been to Disneyland.”
33.
“Being an entrepreneur. Congrats you’re unemployed.”
34.
And finally, “Athletic stuff. How much they can bench, how many kms they can run, what marathons they did.”
