While Sofía has never commented on the finances in her and Joe’s marriage, she did make some pretty interesting comments about financial equality during a recent appearance on the Today show.
“I want to say the basic stuff, like health and somebody that loves me. And somebody tall, handsome,” Sofía began, before admitting: “I want somebody that has as much money as me or more, because if not, it’s a nightmare. They end up resenting you.”
Meanwhile, Sofía, 52, previously claimed that she and Joe ended their relationship because he wanted to start a family with her, but she didn’t want any more children. For reference, Sofía is mom to an adult son, whom she had when she was 19.
Joe eventually refuted these claims, telling Men’s Journal six months later that Sofía’s comments “were simply not true.” The 48-year-old star added at the time: “We did try to have a family for the first year and a half… We had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated. I said: ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t.”
