Yesterday, the multi-hyphenate took to her IG Story (via People) to address what she says was a recent comment regarding her possibly having facial hair on her upper lip.
“Someone made me laugh because they asked me, ‘How do you shave your mustache,'” Selena said, before explaining that her upper lip actually has a slight discoloration due to her melasma. Cleveland Clinic defines melasma as “a skin condition characterized by brown or blue-gray patches or freckle-like spots.”
“It’s my melasma,” she explained. “I take care of it and treat it, but yeah, it’s there.”
Selena added that she “totally” understood why people would mistake her melasma for a mustache, and she also emphasized that the condition was due to sun exposure, reminding her followers to wear sunscreen in the process.
Nothing wrong with a lil’ sun exposure PSA. In the meantime, let’s try to not make comments about peoples’ appearances in general…we’d all be better off for it!
