As you probably know by now, billionaire Jeff Bezos married his long-term girlfriend Lauren Sánchez last week, with a whole host of famous faces flocking to Italy to watch them tie the knot in Venice.
However, the extravagant celebrations have sparked serious controversy, with Venetian locals and environmental groups protesting the wedding over concerns for overtourism in the city.
Other criticism has stemmed from the skepticism surrounding billionaires more generally, with Forbes estimating that the wedding festivities would have cost around $25 million.
With both of these concerns in mind, the hordes of celebs who attended the celebration have faced scrutiny, particularly Leonardo DiCaprio, who regularly uses his social media platform to educate his followers on climate change and the importance of protecting the environment.
“It turned my stomach Seeing all these billionaires Gathering in the gross excess of it all, The show of it,” Rosie’s post began. “Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos, Really – how is that possible, He treats his employees with disdain, By any metric he is not a nice man.”
Rosie then mentions some of the troubling things that are going on in the world at the moment, including concerns for the LGBTQ+ community amid Donald Trump’s presidency, and the suffering in Gaza, before accusing Bezos’s wedding guests of “worthless performative nonsense.”
Meanwhile, Rosie isn’t the only celebrity to call out those who attended Jeff and Lauren’s wedding, with actor Charlize Theron taking a swipe at the guests when she told attendees at an Africa Outreach Project party: “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that’s ok because they suck and we’re cool.”
