On Sunday, March 8, a woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly firing multiple shots into Rihanna’s mansion in Beverly Hills while the pop star was at home.
A Los Angeles police spokesperson told People that officers responded to a report of “shots fired” at around 1:15 p.m. local time on Sunday afternoon. The suspect, armed with an AR-15-style weapon, fired multiple rounds toward the house from inside a white Tesla across the street from the property’s gate.
The LAPD radio dispatch suggested that at least 10 shots had been fired toward the home, the Los Angeles Times reported. One round apparently went through a wall of the house, while other bullet holes were found in a gate and in an RV parked in the driveway, an LAPD spokesperson said.
Rihanna lives at the property with her partner, A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers. The couple shares two sons, 3-year-old RZA and 2-year-old Riot, as well as a 6-month-old daughter, Rocki. It is currently unclear whether Rocky or any of the children were at the house as well.
The suspect — who has been named as 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz — was arrested at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center around 30 minutes after the initial 911 call. She is currently in custody, with bail set at $10.2 million. Ortiz has had several prior arrests in her home state of Florida. The LA Times reports that she was involved in a bankruptcy case in 2013, arrested on suspicion of careless driving in 2021, and in 2023, she was arrested again on suspicion of domestic violence and battery.
She had no known personal affiliations with Rihanna or Rocky, but, according to reports, she frequently posted videos calling out celebrities on social media. Last month, she apparently posted a meme about Rihanna and, days later, tagged the singer in a comment telling her to “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”
The fact that Rihanna was inside the house at the time has added another layer of alarm to the shocking incident. On Sunday, a source briefly told People that Rihanna was “okay.” But now, we have some more updates on how she’s doing in the aftermath of the “terrifying” experience.
“Even with a great security team in place, it’s scary to realize that something like this can still happen,” a source told People on Monday, confirming that everyone is thankfully safe. “Rihanna heard the shots, but was initially confused about what happened,” they said.
Officials have not cited a known motive for the attack, and the new People report says that Rihanna “doesn’t understand why someone would target her family.” A second source told the outlet that the Fenty Beauty founder is “freaking the F out” over the incident.
This is all we know for now, but we’ll keep you posted with updates. We’ve also reached out to Rihanna’s representative for comment.
