21.
When I was 22, I was shot by a hunter during a camping trip. I lost a lot of blood and was told that I died due to my bad heart on the way to the hospital. When I woke up, I wrote down what I saw to the police because I had trouble talking about what happened. I also wrote down my experience on the other side on a notepad and kept it in an envelope all these years. I remember my stomach burning and my back in a lot of pain, and I remember my body feeling really weak, like I’ve been working a 12-hour shift and skipped breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
“I felt like I was in danger all around me as though I was going to be shot again. After a while, I was fully conscious when I fell to the ground, and then, I fell asleep. I remember running through a snowy field really fast, and then… nothing. Like it just stops. But then I’m jumping really high now on a mountain, and then I’m awake. When I think about it, it feels as if I was dreaming when I was alive, and during the period when I died, there was nothing, like a gap of black, and then I was back to dreaming.”
