“My family, including my husband, five-year-old son, three-year-old son, and my very pregnant self, were walking home from an event. We were about to approach a busy crosswalk that we’ve safely crossed many times. I knew the light would be changing soon to allow us to cross. When I looked to my left, I saw a little robin’s egg on the ground. I’ve seen robin’s eggs dozens of times in my life, but something told me that I should stop and show my children the egg. My boys came over to look and as I predicted, the light had changed. We would have made the light easily, but just at that moment, a large SUV came barreling through the intersection, running the red light right where we all would have been crossing the street. Something deep inside of me told me that we needed to stop and look at that egg. I am grateful every day that we did, and shudder to think about what could have happened that day.”
