“When I was in middle school, my neighbour invited me and her other friend to sleep over. Her mother allowed it, despite having a job interview the next day. Well, of course, we were giggling and talking and woke her mother up (it was a small apartment). Her mother absolutely flipped her lid and forced all three of us to write lines as punishment.
“Like ‘I will not be loud’ 100 times or something like that. I had never actually seen that punishment outside of TV and movies. Very odd ‘house rule.’ Being a meek people pleaser child, I felt super terrible and finished in record time. Told my mom when I got home and she was upset that the mother had taken it upon herself to punish me – for a problem of her own creation, no less.”
