“We had been together six years. In our early 20s, we were both broke, working freelance, and living mostly on my savings. When that money dried up, I was the one to find a steady job. We had separate apartments, but up until then, they spent most nights at my place.”
“Neither of us had a car, so I was taking the bus everywhere. With the new job, I was scheduled for early shifts on their side of town two days a week, so I asked if I could stay with them those nights, and they said yes. Checked in several times before starting work to make sure it was okay.
When the week came for me to start the job, they forgot I’d asked to stay over and were weird about it. While I was on shift the next day, they called and told me they wanted some ‘me time’ so they didn’t want me to stay that night. (Meaning I would have to do a 90-minute bus commute to and from my place.)
Under other circumstances, that probably would have seemed reasonable, but I had been through hell trying to keep us afloat for so long, and if the roles were reversed, I would have done anything in the world for them.
When I got off work, I got my stuff and went home. Found out later they wanted me out because they wanted to fuck someone else in the apartment that night. Honestly, the perfect end for that shitshow of a relationship. “
