People Are Obsessed With The Who-Hash At Universal Studios, So I Tried It

Taste Test: Universal Studios’ Famous Who-Hash

The holidays are back at Universal Studios Hollywood, and food fans, your hearts are about to grow three sizes…

An all-new Grinchmas-themed café has officially taken over the Hollywood & Dine restaurant, and the “fan favorite” Who-Hash is making a Who-tastic return.

Obviously, as someone who lives for trying wild theme park foods, I had to jump in fork-first and try the Who-Hash… strictly for professional, definitely-not-greedy reasons.

Before we get going here, you may be thinking, What exactly IS Who-Hash? Well, in the story, Who-Hash is a canned dish from Whoville that is a blend of potatoes and some type of meat. Pretty straightforward and relatively nondescript.

In OUR world (i.e. Universal Studios), it’s loaded tater tots with brisket, cheese sauce, grilled onions, and Thousand Island dressing.

And if you think that sounds delicious…you’re not wrong.

My first impression of Who-Hash is that it’s super cute. I can’t lie, I love a fun novelty food container that you can keep. What am I going to use it for in the future? I have no idea. But that didn’t stop me from wanting it.

For the record, the can is $2 extra; otherwise, the Who-Hash is served in an equally cute paper cup. You can also ask for the can on the side if you don’t want to eat out of it/carry around a food-tainted can all day in the park, LOL.

Aside from the fun container, I thought the food itself looked pretty good, too. Clearly, this is an inspired and elevated version of the Who-Hash from the stories.

And *drumroll* what did Who-Hash actually taste like? Welp, it reminded me a lot of Animal Style fries from In-N-Out (which, being a SoCal resident, I love, of course.)

And what did I think? D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. I mean, I had a feeling going in it would be pretty good. Tots with Animal Style-inspired toppings?! What’s not to like??? The brisket was super tender, and the grilled onions, cheese sauce, and Thousand Island sauce were in perfect harmony.

If I have one complaint, it’s that, for $16.99–$18.99, this could’ve used more brisket and toppings. By the time I got through the top layer, which didn’t take long, the rest of the can was just tater tots with a little residual cheese. I guess, given the shape of the container, it’s kind of hard to get a more equal ratio of brisket/cheese/sauce to tater tot. SAD. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Of course, if you’re not satisfied with Who-Hash alone, there are a TON of other Grinch-themed menu items you can try:

As for me, I’ll stick with the Who-Hash. 10/10 would recommend.

The Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood is going on NOW with “Grinchmas,” “Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD featuring even more themed treats, exclusive gifts, and special moments for the whole family. The festivities continue daily through Sunday, January 4. Visit universalstudioshollywood.com to purchase tickets and try the Who-Hash yourself!
