“I once got a call from a local funeral home telling me that all the arrangements for someone’s funeral had been made. That someone had the same first name as my grandfather. I was very confused and surprised — why was I finding this out through a funeral home and not my own family? Why did they call me to let me know everything was done instead of my parents? How did they even get my phone number? I had so many questions, I didn’t even know where to start. I was in a bit of shock.”
“After a couple minutes, the person I was talking to noticed my confusion and either said he had spoken with me before, or someone else had given him my number as an alternate number to call. I then said I did not even know my grandfather died. We were now both confused at this point, so he asked if my name was [my first name]. To which I said yes, adding to the ever-increasing amount of confusion between the two of us.
Finally, he mentioned the deceased person’s last name, and I realized we’re not talking about the same person. Everything was all just a crazy coincidence. When I got off the phone, I kept shaking, so I had to stop for a few minutes and calm myself down. The call log on my phone had the call, so I know it was real, but it felt like such a bizarre dream. To this day, that call still kind of creeps me out.”
