Growing up in the Western world, we can be pretty close-minded about how many languages are actually out there. Like, in Canada — the second-largest country in the world! — most of us only speak English and French. Sure, we’ve got tons of multicultural communities (especially Indigenous ones), but we’re still considered a bilingual country with those two languages front and center. So when we travel abroad, it’s always so cool to see other scripts and alphabets on buildings and hear totally different languages — even if we have no clue what they are at first glance, unless we do some research.
So whether you’re a total linguist pro or — like me — can barely string a sentence together some days, it’s time to put your language skills to the test! Let’s do this…
How’d you do? Be honest. I embarrassingly only matched a few alphabets to the right languages, so clearly I need to brush up on my worldly linguistic skills.
