Nicole Kidman Was Asked Directly About Her Divorce From Keith Urban — And I Love What She Said

Nicole Kidman Breaks Silence On Keith Urban Divorce

If you need a reminder of how it played out, TMZ was the first to report the news on Sept. 29, claiming that the couple — who share two teenage daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15 — had been living apart since the start of summer.

Another source soon corroborated the reports, telling People that Nicole had “been fighting to save the marriage” and “didn’t want” it to end like this.

On Sept. 30, we got confirmation that she’d officially filed for divorce. The same day, an insider told People that those “close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable,” adding that it “really hasn’t been a secret” that the pair had “been living separately” for a while.

The divorce documents didn’t tell us much about what may have caused the split, with Nicole citing the usual “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for separation. And in the months since, neither Nicole nor Keith has publicly addressed the breakup — until now.

In a brand-new interview with Variety, Nicole hinted at some tough changes in her personal life in 2025, saying, “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”

This prompted the interviewer to ask whether she’d been “doing all right” since her separation from Keith, to which Nicole replied, “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good.”

“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that,” she said, firmly drawing a line. “Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Later in the interview, Nicole also confirmed that, despite the split, she doesn’t plan to leave Nashville, where she and Keith were based together with their kids. “We have our life here,” she said. “I’m part of the city and community for 20 years. It’s my home.”

And it seems another reason to stay in Nashville is her tight-knit support system, which includes her good friend and collaborator, Reese Witherspoon.

“Just this morning, I went for a long walk with Reese,” Nicole said. “We live opposite each other. Isn’t that weird? That’s why Big Little Lies exists.”

Well, I’m glad to hear Nicole is thriving. As it stands, Keith has not made any direct comments about the split, but we’ll be sure to let you know if he does. You can read Nicole’s full Variety interview here.
