Miley Cyrus is facing criticism for appearing to ignore a fan during a recent album signing event.
The singer released her ninth album, Something Beautiful, in May, and on Saturday, she attended an album signing in London, where she was joined by friend and collaborator Naomi Campbell.
In videos shared online, Miley can be seen sitting at a table talking to Naomi when a fan approached to take a photo and get their vinyl signed. Miley flashed a quick smile at the fan before turning to continue her conversation with Naomi as the fan stood there awkwardly.
She finally looked away when the photographer announced it was time to take a photo. She is then heard telling the fan that it was nice to meet them, but once they snapped the picture, she and Naomi immediately jumped back into conversation. At that point, the fan quietly walked away.
Understandably, people were upset with how it all went down — and they were quick to call Miley out.
“Big fan of Miley but this gave me the ick,” another shared. “She’s not even acknowledging the fans even though it’s clearly a sign + photo op. Not looking at the camera when the photographer is counting down and not even looking at the fans. Just tossing the vinyls to the side.”
A third stated, “I don’t even fuck with celebs like that but I’d be so disappointed if I waited in line for someone I was excited for just to be straight up dismissed and ignored. I understand celebs can’t be considerate of every fan that comes their way, but at a signing? Consider how you’re making someone feel when you do something like that. That goes for everyone, not just celebs.”
Ohers agreed that Miley’s behavior was “so inconsiderate and dismissive.”
“You can see the disappointment in the fans’ faces when they realize she’s not paying them any attention,” one person observed as someone else wrote, “poor girl she wanted to say something to miley :((“
