“I am a clinical mental health counselor for adolescent individuals and families. A large number of the individuals I see are only able to acquire the services of the community mental health association I’m part of due to the Affordable Care Act, as well as Medicare, Medicaid, or sometimes, parents deliberately using their disability money so their child can be seen by us. I want you to think about that for a second. Children who have been experiencing sexual predation, assault, trauma, being displaced from their homes and more are now fleeing the services of a community-based mental health program due to fears of not being able to afford it for their kids. This even includes some kids who are in the foster care system.”

“How is what Trump and Musk doing helping the common individual in any manner when children with severe diagnoses such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder aren’t able to receive treatment so that they can feel safe to return to schools? How is this country a better place when literal children are being told that their health does not matter? Mental health is just as important as physical health. There is ample research that shows that a deficit in your mental health leads to marked issues in things such as your immune system, your limbic system’s functions being awry, and even just being able to cope with the insanity of your day-to-day so you can actually manage to go through the rig-a-ma-roll of this chaotic time? Heck, I can’t even offer to give some of my clients pro bono services anymore since even I am stretched thin due to the concerns of costs under Trump. I am making payments on a new car that I didn’t even want but need to go to work. I have to pay off my student debt. I also have to pay for rent, insurance, and even my own CEUs for me to maintain my license. If I am having it this bad with a Master’s degree, I can hardly imagine the horrors that some of my clients are going through right now.”
