Sometimes, a celebrity comes out of the woodwork to debunk a rumor that’s so utterly bonkers that you’re like, “Wait, that was a rumor to begin with?” This, my internet friends, is one of those times.
Now, it’s possible you were aware of a rumor that actor Kumail Nanjiani was having an affair with Michelle Obama. It’s more probable that you weren’t — because, I mean, listen, it’s literally my job to know about gossipmongering of that sort, and I had never heard of it until this very second.
“There was a rumor going around last year that I was having an affair with Michelle Obama,” Kumail said, mentioning that it was his wife Emily Gordon who first heard the chatter. “I know, I was so excited.”
He revealed that a mutual friend had taken Emily aside and said, “‘Hey, so, I heard that Kumail and Michelle Obama are, like, doing it.’ And she wasn’t even upset.”
Of course, you can probably guess what Kumail’s official reaction to the rumor itself was. “I’ve never met Michelle Obama,” he said.
