Amid the release of her new podcast, Kristin told the publication that she felt “scared” to depict sex for the screen. “I did not feel protected,” she explained. “I had to hide in my dressing room and call my manager in LA at two in the morning.”
The actor further said that she felt “confused” by the number of sex scenes scripted, noting that she didn’t think many of them were necessary. As for her costars, she remarked that Sarah Jessica Parker was the most “protected” but also most “uncomfortable” with filming sexual content. On the flip side, she thought that Kim Cattrall could “definitely protect herself.”
“Cynthia [Nixon] doesn’t care about anything,” she added says. “Like, I remember one thing she filmed with [David] Eigenberg, and I was like, ‘Why is he grabbing her breast like that? Why didn’t someone tell him to do it?’… I was like, ‘Tell him to do it more nicely’ And she was like, ‘What are you talking about?'”
According to Kristin, the cast wasn’t initially given a ton of information as to how the scenes would be shot. “All of that was kind of vague,” she explains. “I also feel like we didn’t talk about it as a group in a way that would’ve been helping and would’ve happened now. Like, if there’d been intimacy coordinators and all that stuff. There would’ve been much more discussion now, but there wasn’t then.”
Thankfully, Kristin said that things got more “comfortable” as the show progressed and “became much more our gaze, as it should be.”
In 2019, Kristin spoke candidly about her least favorite sex scene on the show. “Okay, there’s this one time with this guy I’m having sex with, and he had to shout, ‘Bitch!’ ‘Whore!’ in my face,” she said. “I really, really hated it. I hated it. I hated it so much.”
