Kim Kardashian responded to criticism after her 12-year-old daughter, North West, got a finger piercing.
North was first seen with a double dermal piercing on her middle finger over the summer. She was photographed in August in Venice — where Kim had recently been honored with the humanitarian award at the DVF Awards — sporting the new jewelry. The piercing, which lies flat under the skin without a separate entry or exit point, is considered risky due to the risk of infection. In photos, North’s piercing looked noticeably agitated and swollen.
Still, public backlash hasn’t stopped North from proudly showing off the accessory, with the 12-year-old recently taking to her and Kim’s joint TikTok account to document the piercing process. In one of the images, a long needle was seen going through her finger. In another, the finished piercing was shown adorned with silver-studded jewelry.
The post sparked a whole new wave of criticism against Kim, who has described herself as “basically raising four kids by [herself]”, with many viewers expressing disbelief that she allowed North to get the piercing.
“North West getting a finger piercing is breaking my heart,” one viral TikTok said in part, leading others to chime in in sounding off against the Skims founder.
One person said, “I get ear piercings but this is actually crazy.” Another called the location “such a hazardous placement.”
“She’s a kid but I hope she doesn’t regret the scar later on,” a third fan added.
But Kim says it’s not that serious.
Reacting to the video in the comments, she wrote, “it’s okay 🫶.”
It’s not the first time that she’s defended North’s choices. Last month, she responded to criticism of one of her daughter’s bold looks, calling it “such a non-issue.”
