I love when strangers on the internet come together to make the perfect comment thread. For example, just today I came across a truly excellent Tumblr thread. It all started here, with Tumblr user whynotfabulous:
From there, whynotfabulous starting asking questions, and other Tumblr users started giving answers. Hilarity ensued.

Apparently, one horsepower was intended to reflect the amount of sustained work a horse can output over time. That means that over a shorter time period, and at a full gallop, a horse can output up to about 15 horsepower. This article explains it in more detail, if you want to know more.
