I was at a pasta restaurant the other day, and as someone who loves to cook, I was shocked by how many pasta names I actually didn’t know. I mean, I know the fake ones we all grew up with — bowties, spirals, tunnels. (Okay, no, I’ve never actually called penne “tunnels,” but you get it.) And that got me thinking: What else do we casually misname without even realizing? I started spiralling. Just like fusilli. (That’s the spiral pasta.) (Yikes, enough pasta talk, Jennifer. Get on with it.) So, anyway…in my mini existential crisis, I cooked up a lil’ quiz for you.
Here’s how this works: I’m going to show you a picture of an item and tell you the totally made-up name most people call it. And your job is to guess what it’s actually called. Think you’ve got this? Let’s find out…
How’d you do? Tell me in the comments — along with any other commonly misnamed things that I missed. I’m always wanting to expand my knowledge and vocabulary, so please…enlighten me. Also, want a fun vocab fact? “Set” is the word with the most meanings in the English dictionary — 430, according to Merriam-Webster.
