I somehow managed to reach the ripe age of 28 and the grand year of 2025 without ever watching the original Star Wars trilogy, or any of the Star Wars movies, TV shows, or accompanying franchises.
So my partner, a lifelong Star Wars fan, decided to remedy this, and we watched all three movies from the original trilogy back-to-back in a three-day marathon. I’ve never been a big fan of action movies, and my expectations honestly weren’t very high, but these films surprised me. Here were my thoughts.
1.
The special effects really are ahead of their time.
2.
The characters and story are top notch.
3.
Princess Leia is an absolute queen, not just a princess.
4.
I was pretty shook by the amount of tragedy that Luke Skywalker goes through so early in the movie.
5.
Han Solo and Leia definitely have chemistry, but what an extreme enemies-to-lovers arc.
6.
C3P0 and R2D2 are the best characters, hands down.
7.
The Storm Troopers are remarkably bad at their jobs.
8.
Princess Leia’s slave outfit is really unnecessary… sorry.
9.
The Force is a pretty mystical concept.
10.
Yoda’s wisdom is timeless.
11.
I did find the sound effects a bit dramatic and intense.
12.
The Ewoks are insanely adorable.
13.
I really appreciated Darth Vader’s ending.
14.
Overall, I have a newfound deep respect for the franchise on the whole.

Now I want to watch the prequels.
