And while child stardom may have had its many perks, Millie recently opened up about the ways that her unconventional teenage years have impacted the life she has now as a married 20-year-old.
Speaking to Vanity Fair for a new cover interview, Millie — who turns 21 later this month — revealed that she’s a bit of a recluse when it comes to socializing and feels happiest when she’s at home on the Georgia farm she shares with her 22-year-old husband, Jake Bongiovi.
“I don’t have many friends, because of who I am,” she said, recalling that she and her similarly young Stranger Things co-stars completed their education through private classes on set. “I didn’t go to school, so I don’t have the best social skills when it comes to people my own age and friendships.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Millie talked about another somewhat unconventional aspect of her life — getting married at 20 years old. For context, Billie and Jake — who, yes, is the child of Jon Bon Jovi — tied the knot in May 2024 after around 3 years of dating. Speaking to VF, Millie said the decision to marry was a complete no-brainer for them both, despite how young they were.
“We were pretty united going into it,” she said. “We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want.”
Millie’s life is certainly very different from the average 20-year-old, that’s for sure. What are your thoughts on her comments about friendships and socializing? LMK.
