For those who don’t know me, my personality is basically five things: classic and contemporary lit, show tunes, Taylor Swift, sitcoms, and…HORROR MOVIES. I live for a good spook, a solid gasp, and that full-on shaking in my boots kind of film. It’s my favourite reminder that I’m alive — all while watching the undead. So when Zach Cregger — the brilliant mind behind one of my faves, Barbarian — dropped his new horror flick, Weapons, guess who was there opening night, front row? This girl.
But still, when I walked in, I told myself, “Don’t ruin your night with high expectations,” and “Barbarian is a perfect horror film — it’s okay if this one doesn’t follow suit.” Basically, all the self-soothing tactics grown-ass adults use to parent themselves. So I took a deep breath (knowing I’d be holding it for the next 2 hours and 8 minutes) and opened my mind to whatever chaos was about to unfold. And lemme tell you…
My lungs got a full workout from all the gasping, breath-holding, and heavy breathing. They were so sore, it felt like I’d just run a marathon. And don’t get me started on my brain hurting from all the mind-effs. Every time I thought I had a grip on the plot or guessed the ending, it swerved again. I was dizzy with amazement — each twist better than the last.
So since I had such a blast, of course, the minute the credits rolled, I was already scouring the internet to see what other folks were saying. And I must say, people are raving — and their reactions are keeping my post-movie high going strong. Here’s what folks are gushing about:
