Gabriella shared the special news on Instagram yesterday with a few sweet snaps showing off her diamond ring. One saw her hugging Liam from behind with her ring-adorned hand resting on his chest. Another showed the gorgeous sparkler up close. Gabriella kept the caption simple, posting just a white heart emoji.
The engagement comes almost six years after she and Liam first started dating. They sparked romance rumors in December 2019 shortly after his split from Miley Cyrus. He and Miley announced their breakup in August of that year after eight months of marriage and around 10 years together on and off.
It sounds like the engagement was a long time coming, too, as a source told People that Liam’s family had been trying to get him to propose “for a while” because of how much they adore Gabriella.
The source shared, “His family loved her right away. She’s very sweet and genuine. Their relationship is relaxed and incredibly special. His family has been telling him for a while that he should propose.”
According to the source, Liam was also drawn to Gabriella immediately, but was hesitant to jump into something so soon after his breakup with Miley. “Liam was coming out the marriage with Miley when he met Gabriella,” the source noted. “They both grew up in Australia and were introduced by friends. He really liked her right away, but he was also hesitant to be in a relationship so soon after his separation.”
Luckily, he followed his heart — and now, here they are! Congrats to the happy couple!
