“Stop using so much heat on your hair for god’s sake. Your hair HATES being flat-ironed, curled, and blow-dried. If your hair needs daily heat to be styled, you don’t have the right style or cut for your natural hair texture. Embrace your natural texture so you don’t need such extreme methods every day.
Get rid of any shampoo that has SLS in it. It is a detergent that strips your hair and scalp of natural oils. Most people are allergic to it, and over time, it causes scalp issues and breakage. You DO NOT WANT squeaky clean hair.
Take a multivitamin. I know it seems simple, but we grow our hair, skin, and nails from inside our bodies. What we put in our bodies makes 10 times more difference in our hair, skin, and nails than what beauty products we use.
Upgrade your hair products! It makes a difference! You don’t have to spend a ton of money. Sally Beauty Supply has great budget options. But stop shopping at the pharmacy.
Pay more for a great haircut (and tip better) and be reliable every 4-6 weeks. Super clips and similar establishments often hire brand-new hairstylists and do not pay a living wage. You are being practiced on, and the hairstylists don’t always get their tips. A good haircut is something you wear every day and will cut down on your styling time every morning. Tip your hairstylist well (we remember). That tip makes the difference between you getting an extra 15 minutes of detail work or not. A good haircut (with Japanese razor-sharp shears, which budget hairdressers cannot afford) will make 100% of the difference in your long-term hair health.
Lastly, stop washing your hair every day, except for very specific circumstances. No one’s hair needs to be shampooed daily. Try dry shampoo, braids, buns, and clips, and experiment with how to put your hair up on non-wash days.
That’s all I have for now! My most important beauty motto is: embrace your natural hair color and texture. Healthy hair, no matter the color or texture, is always beautiful.”
