Gwyneth Paltrow has had her say on Meghan Markle entering into the lifestyle realm, and it’s refreshing to see that she couldn’t be more supportive. For reference, Gwyneth launched her own lifestyle brand, Goop, back in 2008, and is considered to be a bit of a juggernaut when it comes to famous people in this space — but that doesn’t mean that she isn’t open to other women joining her there.
In her new cover interview with Vanity Fair, Gwyneth was asked if she was acquainted with Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, as they live in the same Californian neighborhood as her: Montecito. The actor admitted that while she has crossed paths with Meghan in the past, they’ve not had the opportunity to become friends.
“I don’t know Meghan and Harry,” she told the publication. “I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all — maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie.”
And Gwyneth went on to make some pretty pointed comments about how the Duchess of Sussex has been treated by both the media and public in recent years, stating: “[When] there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.”
She went on to make it incredibly clear that she does not see Meghan’s upcoming As Ever brand as competition for Goop, saying: “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes. I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
Meghan’s lifestyle Netflix series With Love, Meghan, launched to mixed reviews earlier this month, with the negative responses arguably predictable considering the years of baseless vitriol that the star has been subjected to since she married Harry in 2018.
