Trump’s attacks on the media have become a core feature of his second term.
Last month, Trump verbally abused a veteran White House reporter who asked about the Jeffrey Epstein files, calling her “piggy.” He then called an ABC reporter who asked a similar question “insubordinate.”
In addition to Trump’s daily tirades against critical news coverage, the Trump administration has filed lawsuits against media companies it dislikes.
That includes threatening to sue the British Broadcasting Corporation for $5 billion; the New York Times for $15 billion (that lawsuit has already been tossed); CBS News’ parent company for $20 billion (they settled for $16 million and then secured approval for a merger from the Trump administration); The Wall Street Journal for $10 billion (Trump ally and Journal owner Rupert Murdoch struck a deal); and ABC News, which settled a defamation lawsuit from Trump for $15 million.
