Emily Ratajkowski Low-Key Said What We’re All Thinking About That Bizarre Katy Perry Space Mission

Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Wilde Slam Katy Perry Space Trip

As I am sure that you have heard by now, a whole bunch of famous women briefly ventured into space on Monday in what was arguably a pretty misguided stunt in association with billionaire Jeff Bezos. Jeff’s fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, as well as Gayle King, Katy Perry, producer Kerianne Flynn, and scientists Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyễn made up the all-female space crew on the Blue Origin flight, run by Jeff’s private space company.

The six women marked the first time that an entirely female crew had gone to space in 60 years, and a lot of the promotion around the event was hinged on that fact, insisting that it was a demonstration of girl power of some kind. Although at this point, it’s worth noting that Katy and Co. weren’t really “crew” in the literal sense of the word, as the ship used was “fully autonomous,” meaning that nobody on board had to actually operate it.

As for the actual reason why these famous faces went into space? That’s also a bit of a tricky one because, well… There wasn’t actually a reason. In fact, many people were left stunned yesterday when they realized that the entire trip lasted a total of 11 minutes, with the women only spending around 4 minutes in actual space. While up there, Katy sang a song and promoted her tour, and they all admired the moon.

In short, the whole thing just seems a little off — not to mention out of touch — and Emily Ratajkowski was among the many people to speak out against the trip on social media yesterday.

Taking to her TikTok page, Emily said in a video: “That space mission this morning? That’s end-time shit. Like, this is beyond parody. Saying that you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth, and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s singlehandedly destroying the planet? Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space… For what? What was the marketing there?”

And Emily isn’t the only celebrity to feel some type of way about this trip, with Olivia Wilde also expressing her disdain for it on her Instagram story. Sharing a screenshot of a tweet poking fun at the way that Katy kissed the ground when she landed back on Earth, Olivia wrote: “Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess.”

Meanwhile, Olivia Munn previously shared her views on the whole thing, saying on an episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends earlier this month: “I know this probably is not the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now. There’s one astronaut. What are you guys going to do up in space?”
