Hunter Hess, a 27-year-old freestyle halfpipe skier for Team USA, recently went viral for his comments, saying, “It brings up mixed emotions to represent the US right now. I think it’s a little hard. There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of. Just because I wear the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the US.”
Since Hess’s comments went viral, MAGA has expressed anger over athletes who seem to be distancing themselves from the Trump administration. Most recently, Donald Trump weighed in on Truth Social, calling Hess a “loser.”
“U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn’t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics. If that’s the case, he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he’s on it. Very hard to root for someone like this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the post read.
In response, one person said, “Making the US Olympic Team does not require you to be a cheerleader for the Trump administration.”
“Imagine calling an Olympian a loser while being a convicted felon,” this person agreed.
“It’s not fucking normal for a president to be attacking a citizen on a large platform,” another person added.
