Donald Trump Gave Another Nonsensical Answer When Asked About Seeking A Third Term

“The future looks bright!” the description on both items reads, before urging prospective buyers to “rewrite the rules.”

When asked by Axios about the items last week, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said a third term was “not something [Trump is] thinking of,” before noting: “Though I hear the hats are flying off shelves.” 

The Constitution currently bars a president from serving a third term, as specified in the 22nd Amendment. Any change would require a two-thirds approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as approval from three-quarters of the country’s state-level governments.

Since being sworn into office for a second term in January, Trump has repeatedly declined to rule out the prospect of running again.

“There are methods which you could do it,” he told NBC News last month, while reiterating his continuous, albeit legally debunked, claims that he won the 2020 election over former President Joe Biden. 

Of course, the president has other reasons to keep the public discourse focused on the question of whether he’ll run for office again, no matter how far-reaching it may be. 

Over the past several days, numerous polls have found Trump’s approval ratings at historic lows for any president in their first 100 days, when all of his predecessors have continued to enjoy a groundswell of support. Among the most damning was The Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos’ poll, which found that just 39% of adult Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job.
