All The Extraordinary Lessons “Coco” Teaches Us About Día De Los Muertos

Music is at the heart of Coco. In the movie, it’s used as a way to connect with both the dead and the living, and to bridge the gap between the worlds. Music also has a key role to play in Día de los Muertos. All-night celebrations at cemeteries will often be accompanied by all-night music, and families typically play songs that their ancestors loved in order to connect with them. Songs can include selections from many different traditional genres, or interpretations of classic songs like “La Llorona,” “La Sandunga,” and others.
