Kelly and Brandon were married for seven years, and the confirmation of his death came just one day after Kelly abruptly postponed the remaining August dates of her Las Vegas residency, telling fans in a statement that Brandon had been “ill” and she needed to be “fully present” for their two children: 11-year-old River Rose and 9-year-old Remington Alexander.
Since then, Kelly — whose divorce from Brandon was quite acrimonious — has kept a low profile, with sources claiming that she’s been “devastated” for her kids. But now, nearly a month on, the singer has returned to social media with her first Instagram post since her ex’s death.
On Sept. 4, Kelly broke her silence with an emotional post celebrating the 23rd anniversary of her American Idol win in 2002. “Winning American Idol changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years,” she wrote in the caption, alongside a picture of her crowning moment.
Amid the difficult time in her personal life, it sounds like Kelly is keeping busy professionally. According to Deadline, she recently returned to shoot footage for NBC’s The Voice, and, on top of that, the seventh season of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, is set to start production later this week.
