After Being Accused Of Becoming A “Trad Wife,” Here’s How JoJo Siwa Responded

JoJo Siwa responded to people calling her a “trad wife.”

The chatter started in July when JoJo released a cover of the 1980s hit “Bette Davis Eyes.” In the teaser, she wore old Hollywood glam — a blonde bob with soft, tousled curls, a vintage frilled outfit, and bold red lipstick — while singing in a soft, raspy voice.

“She dates 1 man and becomes a 1950’s house wife,” one viewer said in response to the clip, referring to JoJo’s relationship with her Big Brother UK co-star Chris Hughes.

Another commented, “Girl nobody wants this.”

While someone else pleaded for JoJo to “un-tradwife” herself.

JoJo addressed the comments in an interview with CNN, denying that she’s trying to be a trad wife.

“It was basically a Halloween costume,” she said of her outfit. “People really thought I was changing everything — like, damn, it was a good wig! I don’t know where ‘trad wife’ came from.”

JoJo also addressed speculation that she’s abandoning the LGBTQ+ community amid her relationship with Chris, which she confirmed in June. Before dating him, JoJo identified as a lesbian, though she later said she identifies as queer while on Big Brother UK.

“I will fight for the queer community until it’s over,” JoJo said. “It’s my people.”

“I think that people might be quick to forget — the way that I came out, the age that I came out. The next generation that saw me be okay and saw the world be okay and then all of a sudden the moms and dads of these kids were okay, because, yeah, ‘JoJo Siwa’s a good person’ — that changed so many lives. So what, I’m in love with a man? That doesn’t discredit my past at all.”

She added, “I will always make everyone around me know that they’re accepted for who they are. The people who are criticizing me for saying that I’m moving away from the queer community — which literally is not possible for me to do — those people are not doing the same for me.”
