Chef Shares The Best Hack For Slicing Bell Peppers

In a now-viral post that’s racked up over 33 million views, the “Angry Chef” of TikTok, aka @seb.bonnot, goes off about the vegetable he thinks home cooks are overcomplicating.

“I don’t get how one vegetable can mess you all up so much,” he says, playfully disgruntled. “It’s so easy,” he says.

The first thing you need to know about his method is that there will be no pepper rings. He really hates pepper rings:

The second thing you need to know is that with chopping a bell pepper his way, a certain degree of violence is required. But it’s for a good cause — quick dinner prep.

After, you decapitate your bell pepper by chopping off the top with the stem, you gut its core.

In a few seconds, he’s removed all its seeds, tapping any stragglers directly into the trash. This is not the face of a man who is wasting any time:

He halves the pepper vertically and lays one half of the pepper on its side.

With his whole body, he presses onto the pepper. Smash! Mother Nature may have made the pepper round, but Seb is determined to make it flat. And Mother Nature proves to be no match for him.

In a movement that looks very similar to a CPR compression, the Angry Chef flattens each half with the palm of his hand so it lies flat on the board. Making it easier (and safer) to chop.

He runs his knife through the pepper into somewhat uniform strips. Because he smooshed it into submission, there’s no wobble on the board — and no fear he’ll slice fingers instead of capsicum. (That’s what they call bell peppers in the UK, by the way.)

Seb’s slightly unhinged, anti-ring method doesn’t bother with dainty aesthetics — he’s here to get the job done fast.

Was his cutting board sliding around as he cut the pepper? Yes. Did it stress us out? Ya, it did. So, maybe just put a damp paper towel underneath your cutting board next time to keep it from sliding.

Besides that minor cutting board faux pas, we love his (slightly enraged) method. It minimizes waste, avoids those annoying little seed stragglers, and saves time.
