If you haven’t heard, the latest self-help trend is all about becoming a better communicator. I’m talking about cutting out filler words like “and,” “err, “but,” and “ummm,” and expanding your vocabulary so you’re not repeating the same words over and over. And this, my friends, is where synonyms come in. In case it’s been a minute since you were in English class (like me) and you’ve forgotten all about synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and more, let me give you a quick refresher.
So sit down… Class is now in session! A synonym is a word that has the same (or veryyyy similar) meaning as another word. For example, a synonym of happy is joyful. They mean the same thing, but they’re different words for the same idea. Got it?
Here’s how the quiz will work: I’ll give you a word for each letter of the alphabet, and you tell me the word that’s synonymous with it. In other words, which two words mean the same thing? Think you’ve got it? Let’s find out…
How’d you do? Drop your score in the comments! And while you’re there, tell me which words you absolutely hate the sound of. I know moist is a common one, but for me, anything with a double R makes my blood boil — you know, rural, dreary, and my least favourite…brewery. If I ever stumble across a pub called The Dreary, Rural Brewery, I’m immediately turning around, running the other way, and giving it a one-star on all socials. I warned you.
