31 Brutally Honest Confessions From Americans About How They're Feeling About The Future

24.

“I did all my military service back in the ’00s under George W. Bush, and I never complained. I spent years in Iraq. Never complained. Politically, I don’t mind conservatives. I voted against Bush. I preferred the other guy’s ideas. But, oh well, we lost that election, and I was able to stick it out anyway and do my duty in some pretty suboptimal geopolitical winds. Okay, fine. I get back, and we make the big push for Obama. Awesome. Except suddenly, for some reason, a handful of psycho conservatives now seem hell-bent on destroying everything this guy I voted for and like does. They are so obscenely obsessed with every piece of minutiae surrounding Obama it’s clearly some kind of veiled racism or mental derangement.”

“Yet this obvious political hackery just continues to get worse and worse, and now you have nativists coming out of the woodwork with conspiracy theories to try to tear down this Black president, including going as far as to lie about him not even being a real American citizen.

The cheerleader for that first wave of fascism then went on to become president through nothing but lies and self-aggrandizement and by openly courting conspiracy theorists and stoking hatred.

I know what that is. I read my books in school unlike apparently MILLIONS of Americans who never seemed to do much growing in life and also seem to have a grudge against the humanities in general.

Now, look where we are. The GOVERNMENT IS PURGING ITSELF OF INTERNAL POLITICAL DISSENT. It’s issuing bans to our journalistic non-profits just because they won’t bend the knee to the mad king’s whimsical decrees. And dead-faced liars running interference from the White House Press room, trying to pretend like this is all business as usual.

I spit in the face of this shit because I know it’s the death of America. Never been more disappointed in my country in my life, and if the world banded together and sent the UN here to unseat our government so we can re-install one with a constitution and checks and balances again? I’d sign up to fight for them because, as someone recently said, ‘There’s no crime in saving one’s country.'”

Our old age and security we were promised were just stolen by oligarchs. And now, compassion is a crime punishable by ridicule in America.

Fuck this country — 2025 is when it flatlined.”
