“This is correct. I don’t have them handy, but my partner has several such items. They have two main purposes: One is to protect the needle tips from puncturing through whatever bag or luggage your craft items are in, and the other is to retain the needles inside a project that isn’t finished. Many rungs or rows of knitted items will remain on the needles during the project, and most of us don’t have time to sit and knit an entire sweater, scarf, or whatever. The project ends up going in and out of a travel bag many times, and if the needles fall out of it, you risk losing that whole row (or several rows) of your project. These caps prevent the needle from slipping out of the loops of yarn until you’re ready to take them out or work on the project again.
