“I spent a long time in my twenties wondering why my friends didn’t seem to like me that much. Quite often having big nights out together or going for meals without me. I figure, well I guess they’re not really my friends and move on. But then I WOULD get a call and they’d want to hang out. Then I’d be dropped for a couple of months. I never really worked it out. They never made fun of me or anything, we seemed to genuinely enjoy each other’s company. I was simply the one member of the group that couldn’t be guaranteed to get the call. I got seriously depressed about it at around 30.”
“I got invited to a stag trip abroad which wasn’t cheap, but I made the effort when a lot of the group did not. But then I wasn’t invited to the wedding and the rest of the group were. I’ll never figure it out and I just quietly moved on after that. Now I’m 44, I honestly couldn’t care less. I have a great wife, a dog and a lot of solid acquaintances from work and the gym. I honestly don’t think I would even want a close friend anymore. I got comfortable without them. It was incredibly tough and upsetting at first but now I’m fine.” —TheMightyHucks
