“I was a registered Democrat from age 18 until the Affordable Care Act passed. The ACA (along with the party’s stance on several social issues) is what made me leave the Democratic Party. Watching friends and family struggle under its mandates, especially those living paycheck to paycheck or trying to start small businesses, was a turning point for me. The law forced people to buy insurance from private companies or face financial penalties, while politicians and special interests seemed to benefit the most. I don’t see Republicans as any better, which is why I now support candidates and parties that are willing to break from strict party lines.”
