I love watching well-researched, honest, and engaging portrayals of remarkable historical figures. Nothing beats a great biopic. Lately, though, it feels like Hollywood has drifted away from truly compelling biographical films in favor of more straightforward documentaries. And honestly, I miss discovering incredible people I’d never learned about but absolutely should have. So, as always, I’m taking matters into my own hands and digging into the lives of historical figures who deserve their own biopics—and I’ve found some excellent ones.
Here are 12 important historical figures who have lived such intriguing lives that we need a 2-hour biopic of them:
1.
Ada Lovelace is considered to be the world’s first computer programmer.
2.
Dr. Rosalind Franklin made the scientific breakthrough of the double-helix structure of the DNA—although her contribution would not be recognized for nearly 50 years.
5.
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, an Indian-born American astrophysicist who won the1983 Nobel Prize for key discoveries in the evolution of stars.
7.
Lise Meitner proposed the term and discovered nuclear fission.
8.
Mansa Musa, the emperor of the West African empire of Mali, who was considered to be the wealthiest person in history, 1312.
10.
Hedy Lamarr, the Austrian actress who stunned Hollywood, also pioneered the technological foundation for Wi-Fi today!
11.
Christine Jorgensen, the first American transgender woman to attain fame.
I’ve done the work and research; now I need some writers and directors to pick this up because I will be SEATED to watch these extraordinary lives as a biopic on the big screen.
